Forward Deployed Engineer

Critical industries need frontier engineers. Sea12 helps to make that happen.

We work with some of the largest public and private companies in the world, in manufacturing, logistics, and construction, taking an executive-level approach to their toughest problems and solving them with our technology. We are well funded by leading VCs, growing quickly, and have secured enterprise-scale engagements with lasting impact.

The role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you work directly with our customers from our New York office most of the time, and onsite when the work calls for it.

One month, you may be building an automated document workflow for a steel distributor. The next, you may be processing years and terabytes of construction schedules, RFIs, submittals, and cost records into a system that can answer questions about a project in seconds.

What you'll do

  • Run one or several client engagements in parallel, switching context between industries and problem domains.
  • Deploy onsite to scope and ship systems where the work actually happens.
  • Build LLM-powered automations for high-volume operational workflows.
  • Sit in on executive working sessions with customer leadership.
  • Stand up fast feedback loops with frontline users, and iterate until the tool gets adopted.

What we're looking for

  • Experience — 0–2 years of professional engineering experience. New graduates are welcome if your internships or projects show real engineering judgment.
  • Coding ability — Strong hands-on experience with Python, SQL, and JavaScript. Experience with Go and legacy languages or frameworks is a plus. You should also have built something substantial end to end that you can walk us through in technical depth.
  • Communication — You can explain complex ideas simply, to engineers and to executives.
  • Problem scouting — An instinct for the highest-value problem to solve among a myriad of potential approaches.
  • Adoption over ego — Eagerness to put tools in front of real users early, and to change them based on what you learn.
  • Passion — Genuine excitement about what AI can do for industries like these.
  • Education — Bachelor's degree completed, or completing this year, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Practical details

  • Base salary of $160,000–$200,000 depending on experience, plus meaningful equity.
  • Full-time, starting as soon as you can.
  • In person five days a week when not deployed.
  • Travel of roughly one customer site visit a month, sometimes multi-day.
